Weapons of Tender Friction is a dance theatre work by Carlos Díaz exploring the unstable relationship between intimacy, desire, violence, and the performance of masculinity.

Through a highly physical choreographic language that combines contemporary dance with partner-based forms, two performers engage in a continuous negotiation of attraction, control, resistance, and surrender. The piece approaches erotic encounter not as romance, but as a shifting field of power where tenderness and aggression coexist.

The work draws inspiration from cultural images that have historically shaped representations of the male body and authority: the romantic swan of classical ballet, reconsidered through its aggressive behavior in nature; the figure of the soldier suspended between protection and threat; and the iconography of Saint Sebastian as both martyr and object of desire.

Fragments of classical music collide with references from Latin American and European pop culture, creating a sonic landscape oscillating between intimacy and spectacle. Within a minimal yet dynamic stage environment, bodies, costumes, and mannequin fragments become part of the choreographic vocabulary, reflecting on objectification, exposure, and the performative construction of identity.

As the performers move from partial nudity to increasingly constructed appearances, Weapons of Tender Friction traces how intimacy is shaped, negotiated, and weaponized through the body.
